KARACHI:

The plan for DHA City Karachi (DCK) project will be complete by September, according to the project director, Brig. (retd) Rafique. The plan includes recreational, educational and healthcare initiatives to establish DHA City as a small living locality within three to four years.

The DHA administrator, Brig Aamer Raza Qureshi, presided over a meeting with the steering committee on Monday.

Qureshi asked DCK to start constructing a boundary wall around the project, an entrance gate and the staff accommodation area. He emphasised the need to initiate an underground water exploration site under the immediate action plan.

The committee approved the project’s zonal plan, land use plan and roadway master plan. DCK’s concept planner, Prof. Spiro Pollalis, presented a detailed master plan report of sectors 5 and 6, focusing on plot planning. The committee decided that the area’s topography and natural landscape, including ridges and natural valleys, would be maintained to keep the site’s natural beauty.

“Adequate open spaces and green belts must be incorporated in the master planning, as well as a cul-de-sac concept in street designing for curved spaces,” advised the administrator. The committee approved rectangular-shaped plots for the sectors.

The DCK consultants team leader, Arif Osmani, presented the DCK Economic Development Plan, formulated to create economic and business opportunities in the area to attract visitors and residents.

The recreational features include a lakeside park, a botanical garden and an aviary, while the educational initiative includes a DCK international university for post-graduate programmes in contemporary engineering and technology. A healthcare city will also be included within the project premises.
