Shehbaz calls May 12 a ‘black day’

PML-N president says dictatorship has always hurt the national interest

ISLAMABAD: Expressing solidarity with the affected persons of May 12 incident, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said the tragic episode reminds the nation that “democracy is the only way forward”.

In a statement, the leader of opposition said the qualities of stubbornness and haughtiness have always harmed the country. He stressed the need for moving towards political reconciliation and unanimity putting an end to hatred in society.

Shehbaz, who is also the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, said “Today [May 12] we remember all those innocent citizens and political workers who were killed in an unjustified manner”.

It was country’s misfortune and a “black day” when the country bore the brunt of one person, he said, adding that dictatorship has always hurt the national interest.

PML-N president said the media before May 12 and afterwards has played a crucial role, which cannot be ignored. He said that the serious challenges faced by the country pointed to the fact that one political party alone cannot resolve the lingering issues.

Shehbaz called for joint efforts to get rid of the attitudes responsible for the May 12 tragedy. He prayed for the peace of the departed souls and patience for the victims’ families.
