Lawyers protest against nepotism in judges’ hiring

QUETTA: Members of the legal fraternity in Balochistan have expressed concern over alleged nepotism in hiring of judges at the federal and provincial tribunals and vowed to protest against the ‘unbearable’ act.

“Attempts are being made to reappoint members who had already been appointed at federal and provincial tribunals. Favouritism and culture of promoting relatives has already destroyed the government departments,” said a joint statement issued on Friday by the Balochistan Bar Association, the Quetta Bar Association and other lawyers’ groups.

“We won’t tolerate violation of merit in appointment at federal and provincial tribunals because the public loses trust in the judiciary due to such acts,” it said.

The statement alleged that judges had appointed their relatives at the Balochistan Judicial Academy which is unacceptable for lawyers’ community. “Our colleagues have sacrificed their lives for the supremacy of law and we can’t allow such behaviour,” it added.
