ABBOTABAD:

The building that houses the general record room in Abbottabad District caught fire for the second time in two weeks on Sunday.

The building, which is also a known archaeological site in the district had caught fire due to short circuiting on June 10, due to which 75 per cent of the precious records of revenue and criminal cases of lower courts perished. Some of the records were kept there since the 1940s.

However, authorities claimed that the remaining record that was recued during the last inferno remained safe.

An official source, on condition of anonymity told The Express Tribune that the building caught fire at around 2am. However, due to the timely efforts of local firefighters, the loss of records which were recovered from the previous inferno was averted

The divisional administration had ordered a probe into the previous incident, which was headed by Hazara Additional Commissioner Abdul Ghafoor Khan, which is still underway. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
