ECC decides not to increase GST on sugar

The Economic Cordination Commitee (ECC) of the cabinet decided that there would be no increase in the sales tax on sugar.

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Cordination Commitee (ECC) of the cabinet decided that there would be no increase in the sales tax on sugar on Tuesday.

The meeting was held at the PM Secretariat in Islamabad with Federal Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh as chair.

I was decided that no tax will be applicable on the price of sugar in the face of a possible shortage. The committee said the demand for 1.2 million tons of sugar will be met through import by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan.

ECC also decided to form a committee comprising ministries of industry and commerce to monitor sugar prices.

On the issue of supply of gas to the fertilizer industry, the committee decided to bring up the matter in the next energy conference.
