Distraction tactic: Guards duped, INR5.89m stolen in India's Hyderabad

A bank's automatic teller machines (ATM) cash loading crew was duped and over Indian INR5.89 million were stolen from them in India's Hyderabad on Tuesday.

According to Times of India, at least six to eight men took part in the well-planned robbery. One of the robbers threw money on the ground and then hollered at the guards that the money loading jeep was losing cash to divert their attention.

While the guards scrambled to gather the cash, the robbers made off with a tin box that contained the Rs 5.89 million. They made their escape in a hired rickshaw.

Apart from a driver and a guard, two additional custodians were also travelling in the truck, which had enough money to fill at least three ATM machines.

The team realised they had been robbed when they arrived at the first bank to deposit the money.

Four special teams have been formed to catch the robbers and recover the stolen cash.
