Rawal Lake poisoning case adjourned

Secretariat police had registered three FIRs against Jehangir Ahmed Abbasi related to poisoning the lake’s waters

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terror court on Tuesday adjourned hearings into a case for poisoning the Rawal Lake to catch fish without any proceedings after Judge Kausar Abbas Zaidi was transferred. The Secretariat police had registered three FIRs against Jehangir Ahmed Abbasi for his alleged involvement in catching fishes after poisoning the lake’s waters. Rawal Lake is one of the main sources of water for the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. An FIR was registered against Abbasi on behalf of the lake’s fishing contractor whereas two other FIRs were registered on behalf of fisheries department under terrorism clauses when the incident had first surfaced last year. At the last hearing of the case, the ATC had cancelled the bail of accused. Further hearings in the case were adjourned until June 3.
