ISLAMABAD: Former inspector generals of police have urged the federal government task force on civil service reforms and government restructuring to revisit reforms relating to the cluster of different service groups, including the police and to hold concrete consultations with representatives of all services.

This was resolved during a meeting of the executive committee of the Islamabad Association of Former Inspectors General of Police (AFIGP).

The AFIGP noted that the feedback from the different levels of police indicated that they were based on general discussion rather than the outcome of concrete consultations. Hence, it noted that some key concerns were still unresolved.

Moreover, the AFIGP noted that the PSP and other federal services were not represented on the Task Force nor were their proposed recommendations understood or supported.

The AFIGP said that their principal concern was that the proposed reforms would not only confine and stifle the PSP and most of the federal services but for all intents and purposes, would result in segregation into compartments instead of integration of all the services leading to the creation of a monolith elite service.

“It is therefore resolved that, in the best public interest, service delivery, good governance, equality of opportunity for all to improve the administrative structure of Pakistan, it is imperative for the Task Force to enter into a robust consultative process with representatives of all services and civil society for arriving at a consensus and sustainability of this national effort,” read the AFIGP resolution.
