
He drew the government’s attention towards this issue through a resolution he submitted in Punjab Assembly secretaries. He termed the delay as ‘government’s failure’ in distribution of Zakat timely.
He implored that the government had already given a ‘surprise of skyrocketing prices’ to the poor masses and now the orphans, widows, and other deserving people were being deprived of Zakat.
Minimum Nisab set at Rs44,415 for Zakat deduction
He demanded of the provincial government to devise a mechanism under which Zakat could be distributed smoothly among the poor people.
Some PML-N lawmakers had also raised voice over government’s failure in distributing Zakat amongst deserving people in a session of the Punjab Assembly on May 2. They had expressed their gloom that no proper Zakat committees were constituted for the said purpose despite Ramazan was just round the corner.
On a point, fiery arguments were exchanged between Minister for Zakat and Ushar Shaukat Ali Lalika and PML-N’s former minister for Zakat and Ushar Malik Nadeem Kamran. Lalika challenged Kamran claiming that no Zakat was distributed in Sahiwal for the past the five years.
Kamran, accepting the challenge, strongly condemned the disinformation of the provincial minister Lalika over unfair distribution of Zakat and the step taken to dissolve 585 committees formed to distribute Zakat in Sahiwal.
