KARACHI:

Despite tasting their first defeat in the ENOC Team International Snooker Championship against Thailand, Pakistan were able to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Mohammad Sajjad and Shahid Aftab went down 3-0 in their last league match against Thailand but finished second in Group B to qualify for the quarter-finals. They will face either UAE or Hong Kong in the last-eight match.

Sajjad admitted their Thai opponents played well and were tough to overcome.

“It was a tough match and although we lost 3-0, we fought in every frame,” Sajjad told The Express Tribune. “We’re hoping that we’ll get UAE in the quarter-finals since we’ve defeated them earlier. Hong Kong are as competitive as Thailand.”

Pakistan beat Syria 3-1 and UAE 3-0 and 3-1 in their earlier matches of the tournament.
