Nawaz Sharif working on Taliban's agenda: Sharmila Farooqi

Farooqi said Sharif was defaming army and destabilizing the country on behest of "foreign elements".

KARACHI: Secretary Information for Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) Sindh Women Wing, Sharmila Farooqi criticized PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and said he is working on the Taliban’s agenda.

She claimed that Sharif was defaming the army and destabilizing the country on behest of some foreign elements.

Farooqi said that it was the PPP led democratic government which fully supported the Pakistan Army to secure peace in Swat, FATA and Wazirstan and to foil conspiracies against the country.

“PPP government would continue its support to the armed forces to maintain peace in the restive parts of the country,” Farooqi said.

Imran Mujahid | 13 years ago | Reply Nawaz Sharif in a candid statement said that he did not know things such as suicide bombings existed when he was prime minister and that during his time terrorism was almost unknown. Either he is too innocent or he thinks the Pakistani people are stupid and have very short memories. May I remind Mr Nawaz Sharif that, on record, 13 suicide bombings happened before 9/11 in Pakistan, with the first being in 1996 against the Egyptian embassy in Islamabad. Also, he should not forget that his whole tenure, especially the second one, was full of sectarian violence. Does anyone remember the sectarian strife in 1997 in which countless lives were lost? If he still does not want to remember, I would like to remind him that he was also targeted once in Raiwind and was lucky to survive. It was his government’s weakness that rendered it unable to take the initiatives necessary to control the sectarian violence that expanded further in later years. The succeeding governments had to make an extra effort to control the violence. Mr Nawaz Sharif, the people are not insane and you cannot fool them again.

Nasir Waraich | 13 years ago | Reply PML-N shares a great deal in adding to the morbid haze. The PML-N does not fully own up to the war on terror. Nawaz Sharif condemns terrorism but falls short of fighting terrorist outfits. Indeed, his brother, the chief minister of the country’s largest province, is pedalling a provincial approach to tackle this nationwide and global terrorism. Rather than embracing the government’s fight against terrorism, he is struggling to keep it off his domain. The PML-N’s policy on the US is at best ambivalent, if not duplicitous. Publicly, it condemns the US policies, but privately, as shown by WikiLeaks, it encourages US engagement. One cannot say it is the fear factor or the ideological affinity that drives the PML-N away from owning up to the war on terror. But President Zardari thinks it is the ideological affinity, hence the epithet ‘Maulvi’ Nawaz Sharif.

buttjee | 13 years ago | Reply @ Sameer Sameer my friend, you seem to be badly effected by the defamation campaign launched against the Pakistan Army by some unscrupulous elements at the behest of their foreign masters. Pakistan Army has always been the most disciplined institution of our country. Its working procedures and its rules and regulations are applied very effective to handle criminal activities including corruption. People in the Army are drawn from the same society to which you belong. They are basically men like you. No doubt an odd case of corruption can occur in the Army, like the rest of the society but the procedures ensure that the individual is punished within a few days. I do not know your background and the family to which you belong. But after reading your remarks I can only advise you to be ashamed of yourself for making such derogatory sweeping statement against the defenders of Pakistan.

Sameer | 13 years ago | Reply There are two separate issues here: First, Sharif and his brother (Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum), have allowed terrorism to flourish in once proud Punjab. This is the Taliban's agenda. Second, the Pakistani military is very corrupt and radicalized so it should be criticized and ripped apart to make way for totally new people who are not corrupt and terrorist sympathizers.

buttjee | 13 years ago | Reply Ever since his removal from the premiership in 1999, Nawaz Sharif has lost his orientation. His public addresses usually have no relevance to issues at hand. By criticizing Pakistan Army more than what was needed he has lost his image as a leader. Although he has never been a man of vision yet it was expected that he will at least use his common sense to talk about those issues which are a source of worry for the common man. Nawaz Sharif has turned out to be a total disappointment.

This will be his acid test towards all the tall claims of saving democracy in Pakistan. If he sets the ball rolling an iota of integrity? Nawaz has a clear goal in mind and that is his prime minister ship in 2013. He wants to rule Pakistan with a complete autonomy, where parliament and even judiciary are not able to hold him accountable as proven by his attacks on the judiciary. When he becomes the prime minister, it will be back to normal with Qarz Utaro, Mulk Sanawaro, sestay tractor, privatization scam. Where is the commission on Raymond Davis case? Where is the commission on Hudaybia Paper Mills scam, where is the commision on the flats and mansions he own in London which he transfered to his sons and now says they are nor his? Why did he pay 5000 in taxes? And most of all, his Achilles heel is Saudi Arabia, would Pakistan be able to make a sovereign foreign policy under Nawaz Sharif’s rule without any interference from Saudi Arabia? Politics is the art of manufacturing consent, and politicians who master this art become successful, Mian Sahab is slowly mastering this art but I am not sure if he is sincere about it!!
