Army wins National Boxing Championship

Bags seven gold, two bronze medals

ISLAMABAD: Army boxing team lifted the silverware as the Pakistan Boxing Federation-backed 37th National Boxing Championship culminated in Islamabad on Friday.

Army bagged a total of nine medals which included seven gold and two bronze medals.

Second-placed Wapda team won three gold and two silver medals.

In the super heavyweight category, Ahmed Ali of Army knocked out Mirza Azam of Air Force at the Ameer Khan Boxing Gymnasium.

Ali won the +91kg category final 5-0, while the 52kg category fight was won by Army’s Mohammad Asif.

In the 46kg light flyweight category, Mohammad Saeed of Army defeated Navy’s Dawood Khan.

Wapda boxer Naqeebullah won the 56kg event final, while another Wapda boxer Ali Ahmed won the 54kg final.

Army’s Gulzaib won the 69kg event, while Army’s Saif Mannan won the 75kg category final.

Owais Ali won the 81kg final for Army.

Federal secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee Akbar Durrani distributed the prizes among the winners.
