PESHAWAR: A protest was held in front of K-P Assembly against the alleged illegal detention of Jalaluddin Khan son of former MNA Shahabuddin Khan, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader from Bajaur.

The protestors holding placards and banners chanted slogans against the district administration for keeping Jalal in unlawful detention. They demanded early release of Jalal form Haripur Jail.

Addressing the rally, PML-N K-P spokesman Ikhtyar Wali Khan stated that the government had stooped to locking up political rivals to provide free-hand to PTI candidates in the upcoming elections in the seven merged districts.

Wali said that Jalal, a student, was arrested under 3MPO Act, a law created by a dictatorial regime in 1960.

MPAs demand Jalal’s release

While the protest was going outside the assembly, ANP MPA Shagufta Malik took the floor in the house to highlight the issue.

On calling attention notice, she said: “We believe that FCR is still prevailing in the seven districts.”

Shagufta Malik said that Jalal was taken into custody on the directives of Bajaur deputy commissioner without intimating his family.

She questioned that since the FCR has been revoked in the merged district how could he be arrested without any warrant.

ANP parliamentary leader Sardar Hussain Babak, Bahadar Khan of ANP and Sardar Yousaf of PML-N demanded probe into the incident and action against the responsible.

Food Qalandar Khan Lodhi said FCR has been abolished in merged districts. He informed the House that Jalal was arrested on charges of interfering in state's affairs, adding that the matter is in the court of law and currently subjudice. Later the House was prorogued by the Speaker
