LAHORE: Following instructions from Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and Punjab IG Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz, orders have been issued to replace ailing inspectors with younger officers. After compiling a list of dedicated and hardworking sub- inspectors, CCPO Lahore BA Nasir was ordered to appoint them as SHOs.

According to sources, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar interviewed RPOs and DPOs. Subsequently, vacant seats were filled and some officers were replaced by younger ones through transfers. During the interviews, the CM also met the IGP and other senior police officers.

During the meeting, the law and order situation in Punjab, especially Lahore, was discussed.

Notice was taken over the sidelining of performing junior rank officers who were first appointed by the Public Service Commission during the PML-Q government.

IG Punjab mentioned reports in Daily Express and The Express Tribune about the appointment of old and sick SHOs in the city and highlighted the matter.

The CM expressed his displeasure over such appointments as they were not suitable for the crucial post of an SHO.

He specifically questioned the posting of several SHOs during the tenure of a particular political party.

In response, the IGP ensured that not a single member of the force would suffer injustice or discrimination in the Punjab police. He added young and hardworking sub inspectors have been given opportunities across the province.

“They will also be deployed as SHOs in Lahore,” he said. In addition, former Lahore DIG Operations Waqas Nazeer and former SSP Lahore Mustansar Feroz, after their appointments, also recommended the deployment of reputable sub inspectors as SHOs at police stations with high crime rates.

However, it was reported at the time that CCPO Lahore BA Nasir did not grant permission and many performing sub inspectors were transferred to the investigation wing. Observers said this was the reason that investigation wing was outperforming the operations wing.
