Responding to Meesha Shafi's legal statement released by her lawyers on Monday, Ali Zafar's counsel has now shared their own stance on the matter.

Ambreen Qureshi, Zafar's legal counsel on Tuesday tweeted an official statement, saying the Channo singer 'didn't file a defamation suit against Shafi in an attempt to silence her.'

The statement read Zafar, in response to Shafi's accusations against him, said in a tweet dated April 19, 2018, that 'his intention of proceedings against Meesha Shafi for false and defamatory allegations were to serve a legal notice to the latter.'

According to the statement, Zafar served Shafi the notice (on April 24, 2018) before she filed an appeal of sexual harassment against the former (April 30, 2018).

The notice further reads that, "The first hearing of the case was dated on June 25. On August 5, Shafi was issued a court order, restraining her to make defamatory remarks against Zafar on print, electronic and social media."

While the notice was published on every medium, it wasn't received by the Mein Singer.

"On August 13, court issued another notice to Shafi of the same, which was received by the singer and she handed over the power of attorney. The case was then adjourned till September 25 for filing of Shafi's written statement, which was filed by Shafi's legal team on October 17," Zafar's legal team states.

However, the Kill Dill actor's legal team claims that Shafi's written statement was stated, prepared and attested on August 7. The statement was filed after a delay of 2 months and 10 days.

"Even after filing Shafi's statement, the singer's legal team didn't cross examine the witnesses produced by Zafar on numerous occasions. So much so, the court fined Shafi for Rs 10,000 as witnesses cost," the statement stressed. "If this is not a delay, then what else is?"

On Monday, Nighat Dad, a member of Meesha’s legal team, shared an official statement regarding the dismissal of harassment case.
