The accused had shot and killed a police official
KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced three accused to life imprisonment in the case pertaining to the murder of a police official.
According to the police, the accused fired at a police team in Korangi Industrial Area in 2011. Three accomplices of the accused, Yaseen Nazeer and Talha, and head constable Naveed Tanoli were killed in the encounter. The police arrested the three accused after the encounter and registered cases against them in Korangi Industrial area police station.
The verdict was announced on Tuesday by ATC-X at Karachi Central Jail. The accused included Haji Naek Muhammad, Sher Zaman and Khalid Mansha. Haji Naek was also sentenced to 10 years and seven years for police encounter and possession of illegal weapons respectively. The other two accused were acquitted in these cases due to lack of evidence.

The ATC-XVI issued non-bailable arrest warrants for DSP Asghar Pathan for not appearing before the court to record his statement in the murder cases of SP Shah Muhammad and Dr Dilshad. The hearing was held at Karachi Central Jail on Tuesday.
The jail officials presented Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers Raees Mama, Aijaz Qadri and Asif alias Lamba before the court. The court expressed annoyance over the absence of witness DSP Asghar Pathan and issued his non-bailable arrest warrant.
The court also directed the SSP to arrest the DSP and produce him before the court on May 9.
According to police, the court had declared six accused as absconders. The accused fired at SP’s car in Korangi in 2012 killing SP Shah Muhammad and Dr Dilshad. The case against the accused was registered in Korangi police station.
