ATC awards life imprisonment in double murder case

A fine of Rs600,000 also imposed on accused under the Weapons Act

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) awarded life imprisonment to two accused and 24 years imprisonment to another accused in the dual murder case of sub-inspector Haider Ali Bhatti and a citizen, Attaullah.

The court awarded sentences to Amanullah, Tariq Mehmood and Hanif Khan under the sections of murder, attempt to murder and Weapons and Explosives Act.

Amanullah and Mehmood have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case and a further seven years of imprisonment. A fine of Rs600,000 has also been imposed on each of them under the Weapons Act. Khan has been sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment and fined Rs200,000.

The criminals were on bail and after the judgment was announced, they were arrested from court and sent to jail.

The court issued life-long non-bailable arrest warrants for the five absconders who include Zafar, Laeq Khan, Inayat Khan, Sajid and Irfanullah.

According to the investigation officer, Mohsin Zaidi, the accused killed a police official and a citizen in the jurisdiction area of Sharae Noorjehan Police Station on October 10, 2014.

The weapon of murder and explosive material was seized from the criminals and cases against them were registered at Sharae Noorjehan Police Station.
