RAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has approved a grant of Rs1.5 billion for academic activities at the Post Graduate Girls College Satellite Town.
The college, which was recently granted the status of a university, is expected to receive the first tranche of Rs50 million later this week.
This was disclosed by Rawalpindi–based Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafique on Monday as he noted that preparations for turning the college into a university were in full swing.
Well-placed sources said that the first chancellor and vice chancellor of the university will be formally appointed once the Punjab Higher Education department issues a notification.
It is expected that College Principal Professor Dr Alia Sohail will be the first vice chancellor of the university.
When asked about the conversion of the college into a varsity, Dr Sohail told The Express Tribune that they hope to complete all preparations for admitting students into the university this year.
Two girls’ degree colleges to be set up
The Punjab finance ministry has earmarked Rs14 million which will be released at the beginning of next fiscal year for the construction of two new girls’ degree colleges in Rawalpindi.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had announced to set up the new colleges during his visit to Rawalpindi earlier in the month. The colleges would be established in Rahimabad and Dhok Dalal on four and five Kanals of land respectively. Both colleges would be built at a cost of Rs7 million rupees.
