LAHORE: Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) introduced separate lanes for motorcycles, buses and slow moving vehicles in the city. Initially, the project has been launched on Faisal Chowk and Mall Road Lahore.

Separate lanes, at all roads in the provincial capital, will be designated for fast and slow moving vehicles such as motorcycles, rickshaws and bicycles to maintain smooth traffic flow. Such lanes will help to reduce the number of accidents and this project is a step towards introducing traffic reforms in the city, stated a spokesperson for the authority.

Initially the Green Lane pilot project has been initiated from Faisal Chowk and Mall Road. It will later be introduced at Canal Road. Smaller vehicles will be bound to the left lane on these roads, he added.

The PSCA spokesperson highlighted that the authority and the Lahore city traffic police will work together to ensure lane discipline.

The idea of following lane discipline seems to be an alien concept to commuters in the city, he said. Shifting lanes and lines frequently is a common site. Meanwhile, slow moving vehicles are travelling on the fast track while fast moving vehicles are moving on the slow track.
