Conference on infectious diseases opens today at SIUT
KARACHI:
Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) performed its first renal transplantation in Sukkur at Chhablani Medical Centre on Sunday. Two successful transplants were carried out by the SIUT doctors, under the aegis of Dr Adib Rizvi. A wife donated her kidney to her husband and a brother donated his kidney to his younger brother. Both patients hailed from Sukkur.

The transplant theatre complex was inaugurated by MNA Syed Khursheed Shah of Pakistan People Party on Saturday. The theatre was built at a cost of Rs250 million given by the civil society. The first donation was given by the Feroza Hashim Foundation while the equipment and instruments were donated by Sindh government's health department.
SIUT has been at the forefront of promoting renal transplantation for over three decades and has performed nearly 6,000 renal transplants.
