RWMC to be dissolved in new LG system

RMC to take over waste disposal job

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), besides other such solid waste disposal firms across districts in Punjab, will be dissolved after the new local government system comes into force in the province.

Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation will assume control of waste management and all employees of RWMC will be absorbed in the corporation.

After approval of new local government system and dissolution of local bodies in Punjab, all waste management companies will be dissolved while municipal corporations will assume control for all work pertaining to cleanliness and garbage collection.

All employees working in such companies will also come in direct control of the corporation. New administrators are being appointed for control of the districts after their dissolution. All big cities including Rawalpindi will be governed by deputy commissioners as the administrators, while smaller cities will be managed by assistant commissioners and town chief officers.

The control of union councils will be given to UC secretaries. In larger cities, municipal corporations will oversee administration of primary and secondary education, primary healthcare, roads and traffic management, water supply and sewerage, solid waste management, infrastructural development, museums and art galleries, emergency planning, environment, libraries, transport, sports, slaughter houses and issuance of licenses for markets.

Municipal corporations will have their own magistrates to put a check on over 100 crimes committed against the municipalities while administrative powers will also be given to urban councillors.

In addition, over 22,000 panchayats will have administration for streets, drains, water supply and water schemes and emergency services, with each panchayat having between four and eight elected representatives.

The new district bodies also have an automated system for accountability which includes Punjab Finance Commission and local government.

Glorious Rawalpindi

The Rawalpindi Gymkhana Club will be renovated and reconditioned as well as a new parking plaza would be constructed for reducing the parking space problem as part of the Glorious Rawalpindi project.

This was decided in the meeting between the Rawalpindi Commissioner Joudat Ayaz, and a delegation of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) headed by its president Malik Shahid Saleem.

While exchanging ideas on the project along with other issues such as traffic, encroachments in the city, Malik Shahid said the major aim of the project was to make Rawalpindi attractive for tourists and added that the help of administration was required for this purpose. He also briefed the commissioner regarding the future programmes of the RCCI.

On this occasion, Joudat Ayaz said the government would carry out all possible measures to provide relaxation to the business community while all the institutions would have to work like a team for betterment of the city.

Ayaz also hailed the role of the business community in the development of the city.

He said the recommendations of the business community regarding the traffic issues were being examined while the government would seek community’s advice in determining spots for new parking plazas.
