Authorities directed to speed up lab reports in Nashwa, Asmat cases

Samples were taken from the bodies of Nashwa and Asmat during the post-mortem

KARACHI: The deaths of infant Nashwa at Darul Sehat Hospital and young woman Asmat at Sindh Government Hospital Korangi has left the Sindh government shaken. The mysterious death of Asmat has also caught interest of international organisations. The police surgeon has written letters to Dow University and Sindh Chemical Examiner to conclude the chemical analysis in the cases urgently.

Samples were taken from the bodies of Nashwa and Asmat during the post-mortem. Asmat’s post-mortem was done at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on April 18 while Nashwa’s post-mortem was done on April 22 under the supervision of Professor Farhat Mirza. Samples taken from Nashwa were sent to the histopathology lab and samples from Asmat’s body were sent to the Sindh Chemical Examiner by Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Abbasi. Asmat’s chemical analysis report has not been received even after nine days. The reports on the samples collected from Nashwa’s body have also not been received.
