LAHORE: The Lahore Traffic Police has proposed a ban on swimming and bathing in the Lahore Branch Canal. In this regard, CTO Captain (retd) Liaquat Ali Malik wrote a letter to the Lahore Operations DIG  and the Irrigation Department. The content of the letter mentions, the extraordinary crowd at the Canal Road which leads to traffic jams and road accidents in which many lives have already been lost. Citizens park their cars, motorcycles and even rickshaws on the Canal Road to access the canal. Several brawls have also been reported in the area during peak bathing and swimming hours. Citizens start crossing the Canal Road from wherever they please, which also causes accidents. The CTO said in order to prevent accidents and maintain uninterrupted traffic flow, swimming should be banned.
