Late Pakistani chef Fatima Ali wins James Beard Media Award

Wins prize for for Personal Essay, Short Form penned in October 2018

Pakistani-American chef Fatima Ali, who passed away earlier this year after a prolonged battle with cancer, has been posthumously awarded with the James Beard Media Award in the Personal Essay, Short Form category.





Ali won the award for her essay 'I’m a Chef with Terminal Cancer. This Is What I’m Doing with the Time I Have Left' penned in October 2018 for Bon Appetite magazine.

The awards gala will be held on May 6.

The 29-year-old, who appeared on US TV show Top Chef, died after being diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that affects bone and soft tissue.

She had undergone aggressive cancer treatment in the US and was declared cancer-free. However, her health later deteriorated.
