PESHAWAR: A sports festival has been organised by security forces in South Waziristan in collaboration with the provincial government after almost 20 years.

In the initial sports event, a football match, Kurram district defeated South Waziristan 2-1 in a tough contest.

On the occasion, the K-P CM’s Adviser on Merged Districts Ajmal Wazir also gave an award Irfan Mehsud of South Waziristan who became the Guinness World Record holder athlete for most thumbs push-ups.

The purpose of the festival was to engage the youth of the seven merged tribal districts in healthy sports activities for which the govt will provide all possible facilities.

While commenting to the grand Jirga of the tribal leaders in the Wana headquarters of South Waziristan, Wazir stated that PM has given his endorsement to the demands of the tribal leaders on his first ever tour as the head of the government to the tribal areas.

The spokesperson to CM on tribal areas added that the govt would provide all resources for the development of the seven districts, while special funds would be allocated to South Waziristan in the next annual development plan.

Later he also met with the delegation of the notables, Maliks and other leaders of the area who showed their support to the leader.
