PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have increased deployment for polio vaccination campaign security following fatal attacks on two policemen accompanying inoculators in the last few days.

ASI Imran and Sepoy Zafar Ali Jan were martyred in Bannu and Buner respectively.

Owing to the polio vaccine scare and attacks on policemen guarding to polio teams, K-P IG Dr Muhammad Naeem has ordered enhancing deployment for security of the vaccination drive. In Peshawar, at least 3,000 policemen have been assigned security duties for anti-polio campaign, Peshawar police spokesperson Muhammad Ilyas said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested an Afghan national, Haya Khan, for threatening a female polio worker.

According to police report Haya Khan threatened the female polio worker when she came to his house to administering oral polio vaccine to children. Police accompanying the polio team first stopped him from interfering in the vaccination campaign, but when he persisted, police arrested him for threatening a government official and hindering official work.
