PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani has refused to accept the resignations of the members of opposition from the standing committees.

Opposition MPAs had tendered resignations on Tuesday as protest because the government was not releasing development funds for their constituencies.

Moreover, opposition was kept away from chairmanship of the District Development and Advisory Committee (DDAC).

“We will never accept the resignations of the opposition benches. Being the custodian of the house, I will try to resolve the issue through reconciliation with the opposition,” Speaker Ghan said when contacted by The Express Tribune for comment on the resignations issue.

Ghani said he has formed a Jirga to go and talk to opposition members and convince them to withdraw the resignations. He said he wants to resolve the issue through dialogue and consultation.
