Court orders arrest of four Atlas Metals employees in boiler explosion case

KARACHI: A local court issued arrest warrants on Monday for four suspects in a case registered against Atlas Metal's management, and directed the SSP to conduct a transparent investigations.

The case of the furnace explosion at the Atlas Metals plant near Landhi Manzil Pump on November 15, 2018, which had claimed the lives of six workers, was heard before the Malir judicial magistrate.

The suspects include Atlas Industrial Park Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zafaraib Ali, Production General Manager Khalid Iraqi, Production Assistant Manager Muhammad Nawaz and Atlas Metals Production Assistant Manager Muhammad Zubair.

The court ordered to change the investigation officer of the case.

Deceased employee Amir's brother filed the petition which maintained that the explosion had occurred during an experiment being conducted at the company.

According to police, six people were burnt to death in the incident. A Qatl-i-Khata [unintentional murder] case against the company's management has been registered at Shah Latif Police Station.
