RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi District Education Authority (DEA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zahoor Hussain has issued a guidebook on cleanliness to the heads of all schools in the district, directing them to participate in the government’s clean and green campaign along with initiating children grooming programmes.

School heads have been told that the Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) will regularly inspect schools to see whether they are adhering to the guidelines.

After officers complete their second inspections of the schools, they will write up their reports regarding compliance. This, Hussain said, was to give time to schools to overcome any shortcomings which are identified during the first inspection.

However, any school which fails to react to the results of the first inspection by the second inspection will face strict action.

Schools heads have been strictly directed to put dustbins in place and to install fans in each classroom from May 1.

They have also been directed to clean the roofs of the school buildings and to clear any bushes or flowery plants. Further, schools have been told to have leafy trees.

The provision of clean drinking water should be ensured while the school washrooms should have all the necessary items.

Further, the school gate should be decorated and that there should be two sports periods every week. Students should be regularly given homework which should be checked on a regular basis. The students should be made confident and should be able to answer questions of inspectors without any hesitation.

New departments

Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) has decided to establish two new departments.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali, who only took over late last year after replacing Dr Javed Ashraf, stated that he was astounded to see that there was no English department in the university.

“The English Department will enlighten students about the concepts of language and literature,” he said, adding that a Mass Communication Department will also be established owing to the growing importance of varying forms of media in modern society.
