QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has said that the weather from Kalat to Ziarat was ideal for plantation of flowers and saplings and has urged people to plant more and more trees and flowers in the spring season.

He also lauded the district administration of the provincial capital for organizing a flower show in Quetta after a gap of nine years.

“Flowers are associated with fragrance and make us think of a cordial and pleasant environment. Moreover, the province can also benefit financially as there are major opportunities for business through export of flowers,” the chief minister said while urging people to visit and enjoy the exhibition.

He said that the provincial government would ensure flower shows on a regular basis in Balochistan, terming them a healthy activity. “Taking direct flights from Quetta to Dubai, local growers can find international clients and export flowers,” Kamal said while addressing members of the provincial horticulture authority.

He said that the promotion of horticultural efforts could also benefit the agriculture sector, upon which the majority of the provincial population is dependent for employment and livelihood.

“We could gain national and international attention by connecting agriculture with horticulture,” he said.

Federal Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal, Quetta Commissioner Muhammad Usman, Quetta Administrator Farooq Langove and Balochistan Awami Party leader Mir Rauf Rind accompanied the chief minister.

Responding to a question regarding the provincial law and order situation, CM Kamal said that only those governments are successful which make decisions on merit and ensure adequate healthcare, education, and law and order facilities for the masses.

“The provincial government’s resolve to fight terrorists carrying out attacks like the one in Ormara remains as strong as ever,” he said while referring to the incident in which 14 commuters were brutally murdered on a coastal highway.
