The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government on Friday declared 15 political lockups as sub-jails in tribal districts including Khyber, Kurram, Mohmand, Bajaur, Orakzai, South Waziristan and North Waziristan.

The decision has been taken to mainstream the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and to address the grievances of the local population.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) had also taken notice of the issue that hundreds of people are confined there without trial for many years.

Human rights organisations and civil society members have also voiced their concerns on the issue.
