Inclusion of women in workforce urged

LAHORE: A Netherland expert has urged Pakistani textile and apparel manufacturers to induct more women workforce in their industrial units in a bid to utilise the country’s idle population. He further said that the country still needs to better its perception around the globe as international buyers are reluctant to visit Pakistan despite having a huge resource base. Pakistan has a unique problem, and that is, half of its population is doing nothing, said Fred Kesseler, a senior expert of Programma Uitzending Managers (PUM) Netherlands. “Only four to five percent of women in Pakistan are working in the formal sector whereas the ratio in Bangladesh is 70%, Pakistan should work on this issue,” he said in a discussion with leading local textile businessmen. Kesseler was of the view that women workers are more consistent than males.
