RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Traffic Police has seized some 300 illegal revolving police lights, fancy and Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights in headlights from private vehicles during the last week and fined their owners.

The seizures took place in an operation led by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Bin Ashraf for ensuring road safety. Directions for the crackdown were issued by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ahmed Ishaq Jehangir.

Ashraf said that the blinding lights cause problems for other motorists as it distracts them and increases the probability of accidents.

He said the usage of revolving police lights was a security risk and was illegal. He warned that no private motorist will be allowed to use such lights.

Scrutiny of DSPs

As many 84 deputy superintendents of police, who are seeking promotion in the next grade, will be undergoing strict scrutiny, whether they were ever involved in any criminal activity.

On the directions of Punjab Inspector General Amjad Javed Saleemi, Punjab Headquarters Director General has dispatched letters to additional inspector generals, Capital City Police officers, all commandants of police training, Punjab police, all the Regional Police Officers (RPOs), DIG Traffic, DIG Elite Force, DIG SPU Punjab, City Police Officers, and District Police officials along with the Director General (DG) Anti-Corruption Unit seeking information of regarding their criminal history.

The letter states that the promotion of basic pay scale (BPS) grade 17 DSPs to BPS-18 SPs is under process and a meeting of the departmental promotion board in this regard is expected to be held shortly.

The departments have been asked to provide reports of any misconduct from promotion seekers to the IG office through a letter by April 25. The related officers have been directed to countersign the information provided in the letters.
