16 Ramazan Bazaars planned for Rawalpindi

All bazaars will have utility store, fair price shop of agricultural dept

RAWALPINDI: The advent of the fasting month of Ramazan increases the fears of profiteering and hoarding by unscrupulous elements seeking to make unjustified profits amid sudden spike in demand for many favourite items used for Iftari and Sehri, like fruits, sherbets, dates, gram flour for pakoras and such.

In this regard, the Rawalpindi district administration, like every year, will set up 16 Ramazan Bazaars for maintaining low prices of essential items during the fasting month.

Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa will inaugurate the project two days before Ramazan.

Further, some 10 bazaars will be set up in Rawalpindi city and cantonment while remaining six will be set up in each Tehsil including Murree, Kotli Satyan, Taxila, Kahuta, Gujjar Khan and Kalar Sedyan.

Moreover, the bazaars in different areas of Rawalpindi and cantonment area including Bazaar Committee Chowk, Haidri Chowk, Dhook Hassu, Khayaban e Sir Syed Kamran Market, Public Park Shamsabad, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Adyala Road, Chaklala, Chohar Chowk, and Chongi 22 Chowk.

All the bazars will have a utility store along with a fair price shop managed by the agricultural department. The consumers will enter in the air-conditioned bazaars passing through walk-through gates.

The Ramadan bazaars will be operational between 9am and 6pm while a price magistrate would be deployed for supervising and inspecting the quality and prices of essential goods.

Different equipment for these bazaars including sound system, canopies, tents, tables will be rented while its contract will be awarded on April 27. The commodities will be up to Rs30 cheaper than the open market. These bazaars would transform into Eid bazaars during the last ten days of Ramazan.
