Chinese, Pakistani youth exploited by illegal agents: embassy

Following reports of illegal matchmaking centers brokering marriages between Chinese and Pakistani citizens, Beijing has come out saying that their government is working with law enforcement agencies to crack down on this.

The Chinese embassy in Islamabad released a statement after a female lawmaker voiced her concerns over the the issue in parliament.

Reports surfaced from Lahore and parts of Southern Punjab that Pakistani women were being illegally trafficked on the false pretext of  marriage and then their organs were sold in China.

"Both China and Pakistan adopt rule of law and firmly oppose human trafficking and sales of human organs," the statement read.

Beijing termed the reports about the sale of organs "misleading and groundless".

"We notice that recently some unlawful matchmaking centers made illegal profits from brokering cross-national marriages," the Chinese embassy's statement said.

The communique added that Chinese laws and regulations strictly prohibited cross-national matchmaking centers, adding that both Chinese and Pakistani youths were being exploited by illegal agents.

"We hope that the public does not believe in misleading information and work together to safeguard China-Pakistan friendship," it added.
