1,525-strong team formed for nutrition week

Staff comprises 1,378 lady health workers, 78 school nutrition officers, 69 lady health supervisors

RAWALPINDI: The health department has formed a field staff of up to 1,525 members for nutrition week from April 8 to April 13.

The teams from the nutrition programme will go door-to-door and identify the pregnant women as well as children of up to 19 years of age with indications of malnourishment. Later, those identified will be treated in hospitals and basic health units.

The staff comprises 1,378 lady health workers, 78 school nutrition officers and 69 lady health supervisors, all of whom will be supervised by the officials of the health department.

During a meeting headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Saima Younus, it was stated that nutrition week was celebrated to create awareness amongst the parents regarding problems faced by children due to malnutrition. Younus said during the week, Awareness seminars and walks will also be organised.
