LAYYAH:

Police claimed to have arrested four suspects who allegedly raped a girl in Layyah on March 24, Express News has learnt.

An official of Chowk Azam police station said the force received information that four suspects, who sexually assaulted a girl in the forest two days ago in front of her cousin, were present at a local hotel.

He added a police team immediately raided the spot and nabbed the culprits identified as Inzamam, Asif, Ashraf and Faisal.

During interrogation, the suspects told the investigators that they were habitual criminals and used to rape women who would go to the forest to collect wood. They revealed that they also sexually abused boys and were involved in several criminal cases.

The police have registered cases against the accused and initiated legal proceedings.

Reportedly, S*, a resident of Basti Chhadar, and her cousin were on their way home on a motorcycle after visiting the shrine of Sufi Sultan Bahu.

When they reached Tail Munda Canal, they were intercepted by four assailants in a car. The culprits took both victims to a forest where they gang raped S* in front of her cousin at gunpoint.

After committing the offence, the suspects fled in the vehicle, leaving the victim injured.

The police shifted the girl to a hospital for medical tests. Her test reports confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.
