Following two months of continuous protests, the Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) finally called off their province-wide strike on Tuesday following successful negotiations with Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani.
A parliamentary committee has been constituted to resolve the issue and the chief minster assured that the demands would be met. “The Balochistan government agreed to fulfill the doctors’ demands which consisted of nine points including pay raises, perks the same as doctors in provinces and withdrawal of the FIR lodged against the doctors. They even issued a notification saying the demands would be met,” said Dr Asif Baloch of the YDA.
A delegation of the YDA along with some senior doctors called on the chief minister at the CM’s Secretariat on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Balochistan government had arrested 173 doctors during a protest rally and lodged an FIR against them. They were later released on bail.
The chief minister formed a parliamentary committee comprising Balochistan ministers and MPAs to hold talks with the protesting doctors and to arrive at some sort of negotiations.
