RCCI plant more than 60,000 saplings

Business community takes lead in plantation drive

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has so far planted more than 60,000 plants during the plantation drive whereas the target of planting 100,000 saplings will be achieved by next year.

This was said by the President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malik Shahid Saleem during his meeting with the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Fatima Jinnah Women University , Samina Qadir.

He added the chamber intends to organise seminars for creating awareness regarding the protection of environment and water. Students of schools and colleges were not only being provided with plants but they were also being given awareness about their protection and wellbeing, he added.

He told that the business community was one step ahead in clean and green campaign.

Samina Qadir said the university was also organising seminars for creating awareness amongst the public regarding the protection of environment and water. The VC welcomed the recommendations from Malik Shahid on the environment friendly measures, inspection of vehicles, renewal and environment friendly energy sources etc.

The RCCI Senior Vice-President Muhammad Badar Haroon, the chairman of the  standing committee for environment, Talat Mahmood and university staff were also present on this occasion. Later, Malik Shahid also planted a sapling in the premises of the university.
