Govt bans political activities in colleges

Sources say decision taken after interference of parties in educational affairs

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has banned all kinds of political and organisational activities at all state-run colleges with immediate effect and directed concerned authorities to strictly implement the decision.

Official sources said that the decision of banning political and organisational functions at government colleges was taken in view of interference of political parties in the educational affairs and holding their organisational meetings at the college premises.

Balochistan Colleges Director Rubaba Hameed Khan Durrani issued a directive, saying high-ups of the provincial government banned arranging all kinds of political and organisational functions and activities in the colleges run by the government.



“All kinds of political and organisational functions are strictly banned in the educational institutions of Balochistan,” the official statement of the Balochistan Colleges Director said.

The official order warns, “In case of violation, disciplinary action will be taken against the violator under BEEDA rules. All principals of the colleges are directed to implement the instructions in true letter and spirit.”

Baloch Students Action Committee chairperson Dr Nawab Baloch opposed the ban as counterproductive and demanded of the government to withdraw it immediately.

“Instead of restoring student unions, the government of Balochistan has imposed a ban on political activities at the campuses,” tweeted Dr Baloch.

“This should be withdrawn immediately as this will result in a dull society in the future.”
