CM approves construction, repair of roads in Quetta

Kamal vows resolution of longstanding issues under Rs25b Quetta Development Package

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has approved construction and repair of different roads in the provincial capital under the Rs25 billion Quetta Development Package.

The project director has been directed to ensure timely completion of the projects.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan at the CM Secretariat on Friday.

Provincial Minister for Information and Higher Education Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Chief Secretary Dr Akhtar Nazeer, Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta, Finance Secretary Abdul Haq Baloch and other officials were in attendance.
Official sources said the meeting was informed that with the completion of projects under the Quetta Development Package, on the one hand, the “beautification of Quetta will increase” and on the other, the “traffic pressure will reduce” and traffic problems being faced by the people would be resolved up to a great extent.



The federal government’s grant was included in the Quetta Development Package, while a big portion of the amount was provided by the provincial government from its own resources.

Quetta Commissioner Usman Ali, who is also the project director of the Quetta Development Package, gave a briefing during the meeting on the ongoing projects.

He said, “The ongoing projects, including widening and construction of Joint Road, will cost Rs5 billon, while the government is spending Rs4.814 billion on the construction and widening of Sabzal Road and another amount of Rs13.9 billion will be spent on new projects of the federal and provincial governments.

“This amount will be spent on the construction of 2km long flyover on Sariab Road and construction of different roads to link eastern and western bypass.”

The meeting was informed that at a cost Rs400 million, Badani Road would be made a two-way road and Rs500 would be spent on the constructed of an alternative road for the Quetta Airport.

Authorities also gave a detailed briefing on other projects included in the Quetta Development Package.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan termed the Quetta Development Package very important for the improvement of the city and provision of modern communication facilities to the people of the city.

CM Kamal said, “Problems of the people of Quetta increased because the previous governments ignored them. The rising population has increased traffic pressure causing environmental issues.”

He vowed that with the implementation of the Quetta package the “longstanding issues and problems of Quetta will be resolved”.

Kamal said completion of the Quetta package would prove a game changer for the provincial capital as it “will increase economic development in Quetta”.

He directed the concerned authorities to remove all hurdles and ensure completion of all projects within the allocated time.
