Two injured in firing at Sea View

Unidentified persons fired shots after an altercation with a horseback rider

KARACHI: A minor boy and a teenager were injured in a firing incident at Sea View on Sunday morning. The two victims, who were both passers-by, were injured when an unidentified person fired shots near Canteen No. 2 at Sea View in the jurisdiction of Darakshan Police Station.

Darakhshan Police Station SHO Amjad Kalyar told The Express Tribune that a group of five persons had come to Sea View for a picnic on Sunday morning when Mehmood Mota came to them with his horse to offer them a horseback ride.

The picnickers refused to ride Mota's horse and chose to ride another one. Incensed, Mota chased them on his horse. One of the picnickers then took out a weapon from their vehicle and fired a shot into the air, followed by five or six bullets into the sidewalk.

According to SHO Kalyar, the bullets skid off the tiles fitted on the footpath and hit a young boy, who was passing by, in the stomach. Another bullet hit a horseman, Mir Hamza. In addition, three horses were also injured.

The injured were immediately shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where they were identified as 11-year-old Talha, son of Waseem and 19-year-old Mir Hamza, son of Abdul Islam.

Talha is a student of class 4 and lives in PIB Colony, while Mir Hamza is the resident of Sheerin Jinnah Colony and is the son of head constable Abdul Islam. The latter used to offer horseback rides at Sea View.

SHO Kalyar said that the police have arrested Mehmood Mota and raids are being conducted to arrest the people who fired the shots.
