Minister vows to improve higher education quality

Jalal says concrete steps being taken to preserve cultural heritage of province

QUETTA: Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal has said the federal government will extend full support to improve the quality of higher education in Balochistan.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the University of Turbat in Quetta on Friday, the minister said concrete steps were being taken to preserve the cultural heritage of the province and assured her full support to the University of Turbat management in their efforts to establish a Department of Archaeology at the university.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Managing Director Aon Abbas Buppi appreciated the efforts being made by Jalal for the promotion of education in Balochistan.

He also pledged that Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal would take all possible steps to provide financial assistance to talented and needy students of the Turbat University in order to enable them to pursue their higher studies and subsequently play a vital role in the development and prosperity of Pakistan in general and Balochistan in particular.

He termed Prime Minister Imran Khan a visionary leader under whose inspirational leadership the country was moving towards prosperity and economic stability, vowing that the present government would fulfil his promise of providing a great educational environment throughout the country, including the far-flung areas of the province.

Welcoming the federal minister and the Bait-ul-Mal managing director to the university, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir said the students of the region were second to none and the University of Turbat was committed to providing an ideal learning environment to its students and facilitating them in every way possible to bring them on a par with the students of other provinces. The vice chancellor also thanked them for their keen interest in uplifting his institution.

Balochistan Education Department Chairperson Mehnaz Aslam also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding had been signed between the University of Turbat and the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal in a ceremony held in the university’s video conference hall.

According to the memorandum signed by the vice chancellor and the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal managing director, the Bait-ul-Mal will provide financial assistance to 50 talented and needy students of the University of Turbat.

Federal Minister Zubaida Jalal, University of Turbat Registrar Ghulam Farooq, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Abdul Saboor, Quality Enhancement Cell Director Prof Dr Gul Hassan, Gwadar Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed, Deputy Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, the focal persons for the prime minister’s laptop scheme and student financial aid and the chairpersons of the university’s various teaching departments were also present.

The Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal managing director also distributed cheques, sewing machines and wheelchairs among deserving students, women and the differently abled while the federal minister distributed laptops among students under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
