FAISALABAD: Brick kiln owners went on a three-day strike from Monday to protest against imposition of sales tax on bricks. The All Pakistan Kiln Owners Association, in a meeting, also decided that the industry would stop selling bricks if the government did not withdraw the tax. The government imposed 16% sales tax on the industry in the federal budget for fiscal 2012. The meeting was of the view that prices in Punjab have increased manifold and badly hit sales after imposition of the tax. Prices will rise even further and construction work will slow down if the tax stays, said meeting participants.
