PESHAWAR:

The political administration of Frontier Region (FR) Dera Ismail (DI) Khan constructed flood protection in Waruki Almar, Landai Marawar, Shingao Kach China, Faridullah Koruna, Mamak Wam, Manzakai Wam, Bashkai Wam and Inzar Wam.

According to a press release issued by the Fata Secretariat Directorate of Information, the administration has rehabilitated walls that were damaged during the floods last year, which damaged the property and agricultural land of local people.

The administration decided to build protection walls in these areas to protect them from seasonal floods in the future.

The administration also rehabilitated an irrigation channel for the community of Mamak Wam, which was previously irrigated by the flow of the Tangi Algad River.

However, the channel was damaged by the floods and much of the water was being wasted. It has been estimated that these projects will irrigate 250 acres of agricultural land in the area.

The flood protection walls are protecting hundreds of acres of fertile farmland from erosion and thereby improving farm yields and people’s livelihood.

These projects will benefit more than 8,500 individuals and have been completed using local skilled and unskilled labour.

Local elders appreciated the efforts of the administration and said these projects would help ease their day-to-day problems while increasing their livelihood.
