ISLAMABAD: Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn on Thursday said he wants the tension between India and Pakistan to de-escalate.

After a meeting at the Foreign Office, FM Asselborn held a joint conference with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

"Peace in Afghanistan is the interest of the region and Pakistan. No one wants a war between India and Pakistan. We consider the release of the Indian pilot a good gesture by Islamabad," Asselborn said.

He further added that there is global concern regarding the situation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK).

FM Qureshi termed the role of Pakistan in Afghanistan’s peace process important and said the country desires peace in the entire region.

Earlier in the meeting, FM Qureshi said that India infringed on Pakistan's sovereignty despite the assurance of investigation from Pakistan after the Pulwama attack.

"Pakistan wants peace in the region. In an attempt to defuse tension, we have invited India for talks at all levels. Despite the aggressive step taken by India, we showed patience and as a peace gesture, we handed over the Indian pilot,” added the foreign minister.
