ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan and India can increase trade up to $10 billion by removing barriers, reducing additional costs and lessening dependence on other global sources of trade which are relatively costly.

Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Saleem H Mandviwalla said this during a meeting with Indian Commerce Minister Anand Sharma on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, said a message on Saturday.

The economic forum is one of the world’s leading discussion events, bringing together prominent politicians, corporate executives and experts to deliberate on key issues of global economy.

Talking about reluctance of business communities to interact with each other, the Indian minister said this was due to misperceptions which were impeding direct contact which should be encouraged. He was the view that visa policies should also be revised to facilitate and encourage investors.

Sharma said business communities should realise that Pakistan had a long positive list of imports and a smaller negative list, which increased opportunities of trade.
