LAHORE: Punjab Agriculture Minister Malik Nauman Ahmad Langrial has stressed that a boost in contribution of the agriculture sector to the economy is the top priority of the provincial government. “All possible measures including agriculture marketing, fair prices of crops for farmers and facilitation steps are being taken in this regard,” he said while talking to businessmen at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). Langrial said the formation of Punjab Agriculture Marketing Regulatory Authority was in process, which would ensure good prices of crops for the farmers. “Farmers are growing wheat, rice and oilseeds due to high profit margins as compared to cotton,” he pointed out. “The Punjab government has planned to attract the farmers towards cotton growing.” He shared that a target of 5 million acres had been set for cotton cultivation.
