Finalists for Study UK Alumni Awards announced

British Council celebrates UK alumni in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The British Council on Friday announced the 12 finalists for the Study UK Alumni Awards 2019 in Pakistan.

In a statement issued by the British High Commission, the 12 finalists were selected from more than 1,200 applicants from around the world, for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders, and for their important contribution to strengthening collaborative ties between the UK and Pakistan.

Of the finalists, three award winners will be announced at a ceremony next week.

The prestigious international award celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni all over the world.

The finalists of the Professional Achievement Award, which recognises alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership in their professional field, are: University of Glasgow graduate and Khyber Medical University Additional PhD Research Coordinator Shahzad Muhammad,  University of Manchester graduate HBL Senior Manager Digital Transformation Shahzaib Ali, London Metropolitan University graduate and Clinical Psychologist at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital Nasira Hayat , and City University London and M&D Films Pakistan Vice President Osman Gilani.

Finalists for the Social Impact Award, which acknowledges alumni who have made an exceptional contribution to creating positive social change, are: University of London graduate and instructor at Gilgit Elementary College for Women Salima Begum, London Metropolitan University graduate and GIZ Consultant Gouhar Pirzada, University of Cambridge graduate and Institute of Space Technology Director Faran Mahmood, and University of East Anglia graduate and Special Talent Exchange Programme Executive Director Muhammad Atif.

The finalists of the Entrepreneurial Award, which highlights alumni who have played a leading role in innovation, are: Leeds University and Sheffield University graduate and Out of Box Ltd CEO and Founder Nousheen Zakaria, London Metropolitan University graduate and Onewood Founder, CEO and Partner Tauseef Zahid, Imperial College graduate and Reenergia Infrastructure and Management Associate Muneeb Malik, and University of Oxford graduate and MILVIK Mobile Pakistan CEO and Managing Director Osman Haneef.

“The remarkable individuals selected as finalists for the Study UK Alumni Awards in Pakistan have all taken their UK education as a starting point to excel in their chosen careers and shape the world around them,” said British Council Country Director Rosemary Hilhorst.
