Senate panel condemns Modi’s warmongering

Asks India to share actionable intelligence to investigate Pulwama incident

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Friday strongly condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making allegations against Pakistan over the Pulwama attack without any evidence, while repeating its offer to New Delhi to provide actionable intelligence.

Senator Rehman Malik, who was chairing the meeting, presented the resolution and said, "We demand from India to provide actionable intelligence and evidence, enabling Pakistan to investigate role of any non-state actor on this side," while speaking about the February 14 incident that left dozens of Indian soldiers dead.

Pakistan has already denied the allegation and offered full help and support in the investigation.

The committee also condemned blockage of water announced by Minister for Water of India, which is in violation of the Indus Water Treaty signed in 1960.  The committee appealed to the World Bank to take notice of this violation. The resolution was passed unanimously.

The meeting was attended by Senators Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen, Muhammad Javed Abbasi, Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh, Kauda Babar, Haji Momin Khan Afridi and Dr Shahzad Waseem along with the chief commissioner of Islamabad along with representatives of the ministries of law and Interior, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA).



Malik said that he had also received a reply from the president of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to his letter in which he had informed about Modi’s involvement in money laundering and providing financial assistance to the terrorists. "I had requested the President of FATF to declare Narendra Modi as terrorist," he said.

Malik said that the FATF president had replied that FATF was a policy-making body, therefore this matter should be raised in any other relevant institution.

The meeting approved Real Estate Regulation and Development Bill 2017. It also sought the list of educational institutions established in residential areas while instructing that a report should be presented before the committee about their commercial activities.

Furthermore, he said that the issue of the appointment of CDA chairman should be made in the senate.
